Middle school team sweeps Jasper County meet, sets multiple PRs

Madison Marshall shatters course, county record

Jones County’s middle school cross country runners went to Jasper County on Saturday and turned in a dominating performance. Not only did both teams win the overall team titles, but a combined 26 personal records were also set.

Madison Marshall was at the forefront for Jones County. Not only did her time of 12:36.31 set a course record, but it also broke the Jones County record for a two-mile time.

Also medaling was Phoebe Palmer, running a 13:26.68 that was more than 30 seconds quicker than her personal best time. Kaitlyn Flickinger’s run of 15:23.16 was nearly one minute below her best time, and Lili Cook’s 15:44.08 was her first time below the 16-minute mark with Kloe McMillan’s 15:30.91 being 90 seconds below her previous best.

Audrey Gross’ 16:36.80 was more than two minutes quicker than her personal best with Mia Feizet’s 16:34.71 being more than 90 seconds better than her previous best time. The run of 22:21.94 by Elsie Ladson was more than 2:30 better than her personal record.

Kennedy Marshall’s 15:06.36 was almost exactly a previous personal best with Syndey Vaughn’s PR being better than nearly half a minute of her previous record. Also adding to the depth was Baleigh Gowan as she persevered through the hilly course.

A total of 15 personal records were set in the boys’ race, led by Cruz Hudgins’ 12:59.12 that was good for a seventh-place finish. Also leading to the first-place overall team finish were Colton Gordon and Peyton Simmons with times of 13:12.17 and 13:29.29. Knox Watson’s 14:08.45 and Spencer Moore’s 13:46.72 posted times that cut chunks off their previous bests.

Bentley Cook’s 13:47.55 being nearly two minutes below his previous best.

Jones County got additional strong showings from Elijah Clapton (15:17.36), Wade Smith (15:21.18), Kyle Warren (18:47.04), Ben Litch (20:24.61), and Matthew Hough (23:59.05) as each of them set new PRs. Also impressing was Nehmiah Dunbar, running a 14:26.71 in his first-ever race.

Both teams’ next race will be in the Rancher’s Greyhound Invitational on Sept. 20.
