Madison Marshall is among the younger runners to step up to the starting line as she competes as a fifth grader in the ranks of middle school cross country runners.
That hasn’t fazed the Gray Elementary School student as of late, however. She’s taken first place in two recent events, taking first out of all middle school girls runners in the Peake Invitational on Aug. 28 as well as the GMC Bulldog Dash on Sept. 5.
Marshall ran a 14:12.02 at the Peake Invitational before posting a sub-14minute time at GMC with a mark of 13:54.96. The GMC meet also saw Kennedy Marshall place 12th overall for the Lady Greyhounds.
Middle school girls run to first place in Hornet Hustle, boys take third
Jones County’s middle school runners sailed over to Macon last week and returned home with another first-place trophy. In the Hornet Hustle hosted at Macon State’s home course, Jones County’s first-place run was led by finishes of third, fourth and sixth by Phoebe Palmer, Mary Barnwell and Charleigh Feizet in addition to Baleigh Gowan’s 17th-place finish.
The boys came in third, led by Aiden Davis finishing eighth and Cruz Hudgins in 16th.
Both teams will run as part of Saturday morning’s Greyhound Invitational.
