Lady Hounds officially begin practice with midnight madness workout
With an hours-worth of work just past midnight on Monday morning, the Lady Greyhounds officially began practice for the 2026 season.
Monday was the first day that fall sports such as softball could officially practice as approved by the GHSA, and Jones County continued its tradition that’s gone back at least ten years on Monday with its annual midnight madness workout.
The Lady Hounds used the first official gathering to introduce the theme for the upcoming season, “JC Over Me,” as well as holding a brief workout, starting multiple days of practice.
“It’s exciting to get going. You can come out here and do this before school gets in and can come out here and get going,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “It builds a lot of excitement going into the season, for sure.”
Monday morning’s work started a quick onramp to the softball season for JCHS. After Thursday’s home scrimmage against Social Circle, the Lady Hounds open the season Aug. 5 against Veterans and begin region play Aug. 18 at Locust Grove.
JCHS went 19-8 last year, finishing in a tie for second place in the region. With Monday’s early morning work, the dial towards a new season was turned up, as after a summer of voluntary workouts, formally being in one place as a team began.
“(Monday), we started turning the intensity up and got things going,” Burt said.
