‘Moving weeks’ arrive for Lady Hounds postseason picture

Where will the Lady Greyhounds be when the GHSA Class 4A state tournament begins? All of that will be determined over the next two weeks.

As this week began, Jones County, ranked seventh in the latest 4A state rankings with a 17-3 overall record and 11-1 in region play, found itself not only with a two-game lead ahead of Union Grove for second place in the region, but also in position to possibly tie for first place. Indeed, the Lady Greyhounds’ final four region games of the season, which began Wednesday of this week, will have a say in not only home field in the first round, but also possibly a region title With a win against Union Grove on Wednesday, JCHS would at the least, barring a major upset, host a first-round series to begin the postseason while a loss then as well as next Thursday at Ola could force a tie with Union Grove for second. There could be more in store for Jones County with a win against Union Grove, as that combined with wins between now and next Thursday against Woodland, Stockbridge, and Ola would force a tie for first in the region, determining the top seed on a tiebreaker.

Jones County stayed sharp over the weekend, using a week away from region games to test itself. After a late rally on Friday beat Jackson 9-8, the Lady Hounds beat Mary Persons 7-1 on Saturday before falling 5-1 to West Laurens, ranked second in 3A.
