The calendar officially turned to a key date on Monday for winter sports at Jones County High School. After an offseason of voluntary workouts, Oct. 23 was the first official day that the sports of basketball and wrestling were permitted to officially practice. All three took advantage. For basketball, both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds took the critical step toward setting rosters by hosting tryouts.
Both sports can play their first game no earlier than Nov. 10.
All three sports are coming off highly successful seasons. The Greyhounds had one of the best seasons in school history last year, advancing to the final four with the Lady Greyhounds making it to the sweet 16 round of the state tournament. On the wrestling mat, the Greyhounds finished second in the region.
