When all-star teams are assembled, the accelerated timeline can be a challenge. Coaches and players have a quick turnaround to get to know each other better and mesh that into a team on the field.
Jones County’s rookie all stars stepped up in that setting last week, completing an unbeaten run through the Georgia District 5 Little League District Tournament, beating Dudley in the division title game held at the Highway 18 Recreation Complex.
“They didn’t have long to come together as a team, but they did it,” Jones County Rookie All Stars head coach Thomas Watkins said. “It was tough, but they did it, and I’m proud of them. To see them come together as one and become a champion, it’s great.”
The Rookie All Stars also took part in this past weekend’s sectionals, advancing to the tournament championship.
