A senior night win against Rutland kicked last week off for the Volley Hounds. Jones County’s momentum didn’t stop there as it went on to take a sweep of ACE and Crisp County on Thursday, running its winning streak to three entering the resumption of region play this week.
The Lady Hounds were fittingly led on senior night by none other than their seniors, winning 25-16 and 25-10.
“It was good to get a win,” Lady Hounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said. “We just have to make sure we do a good job on some things that we need to clean up.”
Adyson Bell’s eight kills and Moriah Hursey’s six paced things with five by Cori Kate Brown. Ziyan Miller added a pair of aces with one ace by Grace Faircloth as Lexi Olivero also had a kill.
That game-two win came as a result of a dominant start, as JCHS led 15-2 thanks to service points by Jayda Round, back in the lineup after missing time due to an injury. With Cori Kate Brown at the serve, the Lady Hounds advanced the score to game point before taking the win.
“As a middle, you can’t ask for anything more (than Jayda),” Bodnarchuk said. “She knows the game and when to swing and push. On this team, we have a lot who are not afraid to try new things, but when you have someone like Jayda who is not there, you miss her.”
The Volley Hounds wrapped up the week against ACE and Crisp County, beating a Gryphons team unbeaten in region play with scores of 25-23 and 15-18 after dropping the first game, 25-22. JCHS also topped Crisp County, 25-11, 25-17.
Hursey led the Lady Hounds in Thursday’s sweep, having a combined 9 blocks, 8 kills and 3 block assists.
