Marching Greyhounds to perform Billy Joel-themed show this fall
Fans of legendary musical artist Billy Joel will likely find themselves at home during halftime of the Greyhounds football games this fall.
The Marching Greyhounds, who wrapped up their band camp last Thursday, are readying to perform this year’s halftime show that will have a theme of not only Billy Joel but also his famous song, “Piano Man.”
“This one’s a little bit easier for everyone to get. We all love Billy Joel and some ‘Piano Man,” Marching Greyhounds band director Sean Cleland said. “So, we’ll actually play a show called, ‘Piano Man, The Music Of Billy Joel.’ We’ll kick it off with ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire.’ The first thing that everyone is going to hear for real is the band will turn around hit them in the face with ‘Piano Man.’”
The Marching Greyhounds, like the athletic teams from JCHS, battled heat during the camp that began on July 18 and included getting work in from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the first six days.
Each day had a theme, with the final day being a ‘decades’ theme with numerous Marching Greyhounds donning attire from past decades.
The Marching Greyhounds have roughly 100 matching members this year, according to Cleland. As football and marching season nears, work continues toward putting the show on the field.
“It’s been fantastic. We’ve gotten about 15 of our 60 pages of drill on the field,” Cleland said. “The first show, hopefully we’ll do four songs and two movements of our product.”
