Tennis teams see season end in state tournament
Both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds saw their season come to an end last week in the state tournament.
The Greyhounds lost 3-0 Monday at Greenbrier with the Lady Hounds falling 4-0 at Coffee.
The defeats end the campaign for both teams following a season in which they maintained their spot among the region’s upper echelon of teams, with a strong nucleus set to return next year,
Hounds, Lady Hounds split with Ola
The Greyhounds fell to Ola, shooting a 198 overall with the Mustangs at 173. Jacob Bridgeman’s round of 46 led the Greyhounds with other top scores being Austin Hester’s round of 50 and rounds of 51 from Barrett Beasley and Ben Ridley.
A week after slipping by Ola, the Lady Hounds left little doubt in a rematch. Led by Keegan Goins’ round of 42 and Kimber Kent’s 43, Jones County easily beat Ola with a round of 138, well ahead of the opposition’s 154. Karlie Hoffman backed them up with a round of 53 to support the overall showing.
Youth Football Camp May 16-18
Jones County’s football program will again host its annual Youth Football Skills Camp May 16-18 at Greyhound Field from 5-8 p.m. each day. Registration is $90 through May 13 and $100 afterwards, and checks should be made payable to the Jones County Touchdown Club. Campers should come dressed in a t-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes / football cleats. Campers should also bring money for concessions. Fishing Rodeo to be held May 6
The Oconee Ranger District Fishing Rodeo will be held May 6 at Miller Lake, located on Blountsville Road in Haddock. The event will run from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. with the fishing tournament going from 8 a.m. to noon.
