CRMS belts four homers in win
The long ball was very good to the Clifton Ridge Cougars last Friday in an 8-7 win against Pike County. The Cougars hit a total of four homers with the round-trippers coming from Ethan Jones, Ryder Crumbley, Caleb Gooden and Cruz Hasty.
CRMS is scheduled to host Monroe County Thursday and Jasper County next Wednesday.
Middle School Soccer Posts Shutout
Jones County picked up a middle school boys soccer win last week against Crawford County, winning 3-0. Goals came from Caleb Waters and Kraegan Knight.
Local grapplers claim top finishes
Although the formal middle-school and high-school wrestling season has ended, that has not stopped local wrestlers of all ages from excelling on a statewide stage.
Four Jones County wrestlers recently placed in the Team Georgia Kids State Tournament with Noah Pieterick, Luke Thompson and Grant Gillhouse placing third and Levi Martin taking a finish of fourth. That followed up a showing by Hunter Hardwick in recent weeks as he took fourth in the Team Georgia Freshman State Tournament.
Air Rifle competing for state title Saturday
A total of 17 air rifle teams will be in Waycross Saturday, competing for a state title, and Jones County High School is one of them. The Greyhounds advanced thanks to a semifinal win against Walton preceded by a victory over Carver- Atlanta in sectionals. Jones County is one of four teams competing Saturday from Middle Georgia, joining GMC Prep, Wilcox County and Upson-Lee.
Each team will have five competitors with the top four scores counting toward a team’s overall total. Each team’s five entrants will also compete with other individual shooters during the event as well.
