Soccer schedule impacted by weather, again
Thanks to mother nature, Jones County’s soccer schedule has even more weight on the back end. Before the season began, this Friday’s match against Warner Robins was set to be the end of the region schedule. That, however, was before mother nature intervened, not once but twice. The region opener against Locust Grove was already postponed by weather to March 25. That late-season load gained more weight as Friday’s weather also impacted a home matchup against Ola, postponing it as well. That contest is tentatively set for March 28.
It came on the heels of last Tuesday when both teams fell on the road to Union Grove. The Greyhounds came up short 4-0 with the Lady Greyhounds losing 3-0 to Union Grove, tied for the region lead entering this week.
The loss drops the Greyhounds record to 1-7-1 as two of their upcoming opponents, Warner Robins and Ola, have a combined one region win.
With a record of 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the region, the Lady Hounds’ postseason fate may be determined in their remaining matches. This past Tuesday’s opponent, Dutchtown, started this week third in the region with next Monday’s matchup with Locust Grove possibly being between the region’s fourth and fifth-place teams in the region.
Lady Hounds continue strong start with win over Ola
With the calendar moving toward the end of March, spring-like temperatures mean that the golf season is picking up steam for the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds.
The Lady Greyhounds, coming off another state tournament appearance, topped Ola last week with a team score of 140 that bettered the 167 of the Mustangs. Kimber Kent’s round of 38 led the way with Sara Utley and Karlie Hoffman each having rounds of 51.
The Greyhounds fell short against Lamar County and Ola with Ben Ridley and Cash Bearden’s rounds of 43 and 44 setting the pace. Barrett Beasley carded a 49 with Dixon Dowling having a 51.
Both teams are scheduled to host Ace Charter on Thursday.
Two more wins extend Clifton Ridge’s record to 10-1
Clifton Ridge continued to a strong finish toward the end of the season last week, claiming a pair of wins to improve to 10-1 overall.
The Cougars toppled Lamar County 5-1 on Tuesday followed by Thursday’s 6-3 win against Monroe County with strong pitching performances by Garrett Darley, Ethan Jones and Aaron Vaughan. Offensive leaders were Ryder Crumbley, Ethan Jones, Aaron Vaughan, Caleb Gooden and Garrett Darley. CRMS plays Henderson Middle on Thursday of this week.
