Punctuated by two wins in three matches last week, the Volley Hounds continue to break through the ceiling of moving the program forward.
A 2-0 Tuesday win against Baldwin with scores of 25-10 and 25-21 was followed up by a rally to beat a Lamar County team 2-1 on Thursday, avenging a loss earlier in the season.
The Lady Hounds fell short in Thursday’s final match as Jackson got victories of 25-22 and 25-13 to win 2-0.
With eight wins so far this season, Jones County has now won more matches than it had the past two years combined, the first two for the sport of volleyball at the school.
Jones County hosted Mary Persons this past Tuesday in its final match prior to region play. That starts Sept. 6 at home against Eagles Landing and Warner Robins. It’ll be one of three matches against teams from the region with the other two of those being on the road.
“In any sport, you want to reach your peak at the right point,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Lonnie Wheeler said. “
The fact that the Lady Hounds were able to have success against Lamar County gives them confidence going toward region play, says Wheeler.
“I know that they have beaten Eagles Landing, who is in our region,” Wheeler said. “If we can be competitive with them, it makes us feel good about our region.”
