With the region tournament coming up this weekend, the Volley Hounds are doing all that they can to head there with strong momentum.
Three wins out of four matches last week, including a pair of 2-0 sweeps of McDonough and Stockbridge did much in that regard for Jones County, which went 3-1 overall last week with a non-region win against Taylor County and a loss to Mary Persons. That put JCHS seventh in the region standings as this week began.
“We have done a lot better in the standings than we have been during the past couple of years. They’ve been doing well, and I’m proud of how hard they are working,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said.
Being in control was no trouble in last week’s region sweep. After wins of 25-7 and 25-9 against McDonough, that effort was followed by a 25-21 and 25-10 win against Stockbridge.
A barrage of aces sparked that sweep, led by five from Ziyan Miller and four apiece from Lexi Olivero and Isabella Bodnarchuk. Zakeena Sturgeon and Olivia Edmonson added three.
The Lady Hounds split in Forsyth Thursday, first beating Taylor County 25-13 and 25-17 before being swept by a Mary Persons team that is unbeaten in its region. After a razor-thin match went the Bulldogs’ way in a 26-24 loss, the second game saw JCHS fall 25-15.
Isabella Bodnarchuk had a combined 41 digs in Thursday’s action with Cori Kate Brown adding 25 kills.
