With the region tournament looming next week, the window of time is closing in for the Volley Hounds to make adjustments and find ways to improve.
They put another layer to that work in place last week, hosting a tri-match against Union Grove and Locust Grove on Tuesday before winning a Thursday match against Piedmont Academy, winning 25-22 and 25-15 while dropping one game, 25-19.
“There are some things we can tweak,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said. “It just comes down to finishing as strong as we start.”
After starting Tuesday off against region-leading Union Grove in a loss by scores of 25-16 and 25-9, the Lady Hounds dropped a pair of tough decisions to the Wildcats, 25-20 and 25-23. A mid-game run by Locust Grove in the second of the two contests gave the Wildcats enough of a cushion to stave off a JCHS rally.
Isabella Bodnarchuk led Jones County from the libero position with 24 digs, a kill, and hit 100 percent of her serves with Ziyan Miller having five digs and an ace as Lexi Olivero added four digs and an ace.
“We had some mistakes made on defense, and that cost us several points,” coach Bodnarchuk said. “When we were ahead, that took us down, and we were unable to come back.”
