In front of this week’s region matches, the Volley Hounds stepped out of that regimen last week with a handful of non-region matches. Jones County harnessed some momentum in the process, sweeping Putnam County in a home match by scores of 25-15 and 25-7 last Tuesday, splitting a tri-match after dropping two to Harris County 25-20 and 25-15.
“We needed that; we have a tendency to mirror the energy that the other team is giving us,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Kim Hanner said. “That’s how we started out, and finally they got it going and got in a rhythm.”
JCHS also fell 25-15 and 26-24 on Thursday to Ace Charter, leading into this week’s road region match against McDonough and Eagles Landing.
“This was a good week to have this so we can put some things into play that we’ve been practicing. That showed up (Tuesday),” Hanner said. “This gives us time to tweak some things.”
The Lady Greyhounds took control in both sets against Putnam, starting both with 7-1 leads, an advantage that was more than plenty. Putnam rallied to trail 13-10 in the first set before JCHS answered, leading 17-10 on the way to the win. The Lady Hounds coasted after the early lead in the second set, going ahead 17-7.
