HAMPTON – Any rumors of the demise of the Greyhounds region title hopes appear to have been greatly exaggerated. A week after being upset at home by Ola, the Greyhounds unleashed a stunner of their own, going on the road Friday to upset second-ranked Dutchtown 24-7.

Georgia offense overpowers Vanderbilt

No. 1 Georgia had no problem moving the ball against Vanderbilt on Saturday.The Bulldogs compiled a seasonhigh 579 yards of total offense— including 295 yards in the first half alone—enroute to a 55-0 victory over the Commodores. Georgia scored on four of their five drives in the first half.
Jones County’s competition cheerleading squads headed to the Falcon Frenzy on Saturday at East Laurens and came home with a pair of season-high performances. The varsity cheer hounds took first with the middle schoolers being second. The varsity squad is scheduled to next compete Oct. 29 at Loganville and at region on Nov. 5 at Houston County. Doster leads Mercer to record-setting win

Led by former Jones County standout Laney Doster, Mercer’s women’s cross country team dominated last week at the USC Upstate Invitational, winning first in a 14-team meet that included conference opponents. Doster ran a time of 18:40.
