Bill Piper is the local veteran of the week.
He entered the U.S.
Air Force in 1956 as an aviation cadet, completed pilot training in February 1958, and completed further training at the advanced fighter interceptor school at Moody Air Force Base.
He remained in the Air Force for eight years, flying as an Air Defense Command fighter pilot and also a radar intercept controller at the Washington Air Defense Sector. He was discharged in November 1964 and flew for the airline industry for 30 years before retiring in 1995.
