BOE calls meeting to listen to concerns

The Jones County Board of Education held the second of its required three hearings last week to opt out of HB 581 without any members of the public in attendance. That changed about 30 minutes later when the room started filling up for a public comments session.

Report: revaluation, office overhaul needed for Board of Tax Assessors

The title of the 2024 Performance Review of the Jones County Board of Tax Assessors could be “The Buck Stops Here.”The 142-page document is dated Dec. 17, 2024, but it was not received by the Jones County Board of Commissioners until last week.

Opening of ice cream shop highlights 2024 for DDA

The Gray Downtown Development Authority looked over 2024 finances and discussed new projects for 2025 at its January meeting.Chairman Sherri Rollins called the Jan. 13 meeting to order, and the financial report was first on the agenda.

Last week’s snow kept first responders busy

Last weeks’ snow and below freezing temperatures created the perfect storm for vehicle accidents and traffic issues.As snow started falling Jan. 21, so did temperatures, and before long the precipitation started sticking to the streets.
