A Jones County barrel racer won big in Perry this week, winning the 2D in the Triple Crown Incentive slot race. Ali Kate Kelleher, riding her horse Sister, pulled in a total of $55,000 Dec. 16 during the event known as the Jingle Bell Classic.

Gray City Council members made quick work of a called meeting and moved on to committees during their final meeting of the year. Mayor Ed Barbee called the Dec. 18 meeting to order and took up the first agenda item. The first Monday of January 2024 would fall on the Jan.
The Jones County Kiwanis Club provided 15 Christmas gift bags for foster children in the county. Working with the Department of Family and Children Services, The Kiwanis Club selected items that would be most needed by teenage boys and girls. An argument that started on a school bus escalated to threats involving a firearm, which led to an arrest and now an indictment for charges of aggravated assault. Antonio Lee Neal was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury Dec. 11 for two counts of aggravated assault.
