The Jones County Public Library is ready for patrons this holiday season with displays, activities and events to get everyone in Jones County into the Christmas spirit.

Man to serve 25 years for rape A Jones County Jury found the defendant guilty in a trial for the crime of rape last week, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years to serve in prison. Anthony Vijay Whisler, 26, was arrested March 14 and charged with rape.

Commissioners approve zoning for new sanctuary

Applause broke out at the December Board of Commissioners meeting when a local church received the green light to construct a new building. More good news was shared at the end of the meeting pertaining to ambulance service. Board Chairman Chris Weidner called the Dec.

Two die in wreck at dangerous intersection

A mother and daughter from Wilcox County lost their lives crossing Gray Highway last week. The deceased are listed as Rhonda Lynn Kennedy, 59, and Hazel Wallace, 75, both from Pitts. The accident happened just before 6 p.m., Dec. 5, at the intersection of Homer Roberts Road and Gray Highway.

The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Nov. 22-26, 2023. Nov. 22 Caught on Flock Camera Deputy Marcum was monitoring traffic on Gray Hwy.
