March 17 was not a lucky day for a Bibb County Deputy and his wife who were arrested by Jones County officers and are facing multiple charges.Michael Scott Dorough was arrested while on the job in Macon with assistance of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones County School System’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, Charm Mapp, was surprised last week with a visit from Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods and the announcement that she is a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Earl Humphries held his first civilian job for about four days, then began one that has now lasted 40 years. He started in an entry-level position and has risen to second-in-command.

Citizens clean up community

A group of citizens from across Jones County gathered on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 7, for a roadside cleanup along Griswoldville Rd. Organized by Alex Lefholz and Dustin Riley, the effort resulted in the collection of 31 bags of trash from the roadside and adjacent wood lines.

Joseph Benjamin Jackson, Jr. is the local veteran of the week. He served in the United States Marine Corps. as a Lance Corp. from 1941 to 1945. After he completed his basic training at Paris Island, SC, he was assigned to the Accounting Dept. at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
