The first official retirement ceremony for the American Flag at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was held last week, complete with all the honor and reverence possible for the solemn occasion.

Jones County voters made their choices known in last week’s primary runoff with a turnout total close to 20 percent of registered voters.The primary runoff was needed in several contests because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the May 19 Primary Election.

Future of State Place Cemetery remains uncertain

The Jones County Board of Commissioners discussed a familiar issue at a brief business meeting last week.The June 16 meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Chris Weidner, and the opening prayer and pledge were led by Rev. John Haney.
