City passes LOST resolution, changes meeting date

CITY OF GRAY

Gray’s City Council meeting began on a positive note with the mayor relaying compliments he received about the appearance of the city.

Mayor Ed Barbee called the Aug. 1 meeting to order and in his mayor’s report noted that he was glad to pass along comments about how good the city streets look. Barbee gave the credit for the city’s clean and well-maintained thoroughfare to Gray’s Public Works Department.

The first agenda item was to reschedule the city’s first Monday meeting in September due to the Labor Day holiday. Mayor Pro Tem James Collins made the motion to change the date to Sept. 12, the following Monday. The motion to approve was unanimous.

Collins also made the next motion, which was to accept the distribution rate of 19.5 percent for LOST collections. His motion was approved unanimously.

The mayor pro tem later clarified that the offer of 19.5 percent was offered due to discussions in a July 27 meeting with the commissioners. The 19.5 percent split was mentioned as being acceptable during the meeting because it matched the split for the most recent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

Collins said the Board of Commissioners would vote on the distribution rate at their meeting the following evening.

Barbee thanked council members for their work with the LOST distribution.

“Especially our Mayor Pro Tem, Mr. Collins,” the mayor said.

Council members unanimously approved a credit card for city departments. The credit limit approved was $10,000 for each department and a total credit limit of $60,000.

The final agenda item was a vote to begin the process for a text amendment to the city code to address the minimum square footage of a singlefamily residence and the number of residential structures per lot.

Prior to the amendment, the city code did not include a minimum square footage. The proposed amendment would have a minimum of 750 square feet for a single-family dwelling.

Council business was conducted with four voting members present due to the continued absence of District 2 Councilman Benny Gray.
