Dep. Sullivan was monitoring traffic and checking for valid registration and insurance on vehicles, when he observed a car pass by and came back to show the vehicle registration had expired. Sullivan caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When the deputy made contact with the driver, the driver advised Sullivan that the vehicle did not belong to him.

The driver told Sullivan that his car was in the shop and that he was driving this one until the following day. Sullivan verified that the driver’s license was valid and then advised the driver he understood the vehicle was not his, however it did show an expired registration. Sullivan also told the driver when he returned the vehicle, to make sure the owner understood the registration had expired, and then let the driver go with a verbal warning.
