Walter Bruce Hunnicutt, of Gray, passed away on March 29, 2023, surrounded by his family. The memorial service was held at FairHaven Memorial Chapel. Bruce was laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Macon, with his cousin Pastor Bob Hunnicutt officiating.
Bruce, born in Macon on January 30, 1947, a National Guard veteran, retired from Robins Air Force Base where he worked as a chemist.
He graduated from the University of Georgia and was an avid UGA football fan. He loved collecting coins, and was a member of the Macon Coin Club and the Warner Robins Coin Club. His other hobbies included gardening, astronomy, and golf. He loved Civil War history, planting trees, and nature. Bruce had a wonderful, quirky sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sawyer Hunnicutt, and daughters, Terri Lynn Hunnicutt, Stacy Michelle (Mike) Heath, Tiffany Carla Hunnicutt, and grandchildren, Owen Heath and Ellery Heath, as well as his siblings, Buford (Vicki) Hunnicutt and Brenda (Bert) Craw. He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Stevens Hunnicutt and Noah Douglas Hunnicutt.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to Arbor Day Foundation.
