Reuben Linton Jordan

Reuben Linton Jordan, age 93, of Monticello, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2023, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Linton, fondly known as “Lint” was born on January 29, 1930, in Monticello, Georgia to the late George Dixon, Sr. and Inez Marshall Jordan.

He was a gifted athlete who had a passion for sports and was awarded a full-ride football scholarship to the University of Alabama.

Linton served in the United States Army and earned the assignment to coach the U. S. Army football team. Upon return, he was offered a job coaching in Waycross, Georgia where he remained for more than six years.

In 1961, Lint and his family moved to Gray, Georgia. He continued coaching football and teaching science, before being elected superintendent of Jones County schools. He served for thirty years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Linton was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Mary Kathryn Worley Jordan; daughter, Lisa Ambrose; and brothers, George D.

Jordan, Jr. and Emmett M. Jordan.

Linton is survived by his son, Lee (Denise) Jordan of Monticello; four grandchildren, Kathryn (Brace) Rook, Benn Jordan, Kellee (Jonathan) Douglas and Kyle (Jessica) Jordan; great-grandchildren; great, great-grandchildren; brother, Neil (Linda) Jordan of Monticello; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

Aside from his love for family, music, and football; Linton was passionate about giving back and known for his generosity, from embracing literacy programs for children to enthusiastically supporting athletic programs to working with the prison ministry.

Linton touched many lives and positively impacted our community. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church.

Interment was held in West View Cemetery. Dr.

John Brown and Rev. Ben Strength officiated.

The family received friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, Georgia 30025.
