Billie Marie “Cherrie” Ard

Mrs. Billie Marie “Cherrie” Ard, 90, of Gray, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held at Real Life Church, Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverends Bo Turner, Robert Webb Sr., and Gary Lamb officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Ridge Cemetery. The family greeted friends at Hart’s Jones County Chapel, Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Cherrie met her future husband, Joel, when she was just seventeen years old. The two were married on February 3, 1962, and were blessed to celebrate 61 years together as man and wife. A devoted Christian woman, Cherrie was a longtime and faithful member of Real Life Church (formerly Shurlington Church of God). Cherrie was a skillful seamstress who loved to sew and quilt.

For years she organized the group, Beneath His Wings Quilting, to make blankets and surgical caps for orphanages. Never afraid to take adventures together, she and Joel made several trips across America in their motor home with their life-long friends, Joe and Shirley Woodard.

Cherrie is preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Evers; and her sister, Audrey Yaughn. She is survived by her husband, Joel Ard; daughters, Kathy Barger (Steve), of Gray, Cheryl Parker, of Gray, Angela Ard, of Gray, and Laurie Webb (Buddy), of Macon; nine grandchildren, Kristi Hursey (David), Stacy Hostler (Jeff), Keith Barger (Mallory), Kevin Barger, Amber Lewis (Eric), Corey Crane (Karissa), Leslie Crane, Lindsay Webb, and Katie Peck (Josh); twenty- two great-grandchildren, Daniel Hursey, Moriah Hursey, Levi Hursey, Olivia Hursey, Cameron Dobbs (Olivia), Caleigh Dobbs, Chloe Hostler, Emerson Barger, Rory Barger, Makenna Barger, Kolton Barger, Weston Barger, Carter Lewis, Landon Lewis, Ethan Lewis, Jace Lewis, Michael Crane, Madalyn Crane, Elizabeth Robinson, Presleigh Vital, Delilah Peck, and Weston Peck; nieces and nephews, Glenda Smith (Ed), Steve Ard (Bonnie), Melinda Neil (Kenneth), and Lisa Perry; and great niece, Carmen Nash (Graham).
