Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at Elam Memorial Gardens, Elam Church Road, Gray, Georgia, 31032. Chase Sheffield, his grandson, officiated.
Charles was born in Macon, Georgia on Jan. 26, 1941, to the late Wallace and Ruth Slocumb Sheffield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Joan; son, David Sheffield; brothers, Bobby Sheffield and Wendell Sheffield; and granddaughter, Cheyenne Sheffield.
Charles enjoyed the simple things in life. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Boston in the sixth Naval District. He opened Sheffield Automotive and retired after twenty years of service. When life slowed down, he spent his time traveling to campsites with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his children, grandchildren, fishing, and camping, but he loved his wife, Joan, most of all.
His patience and devotion to his wife set an example to be admired.
His marriage showed how love, grace, and forgiveness can go a long way.
His grandchildren and his wife’s unpredictable stories made him laugh.
He also enjoyed people who could keep up with his quick wit. Charles was a proud father and loving grandfather. He was a hard worker who passed his trades to his sons. He was a devoted husband and a dedicated family man.
Charles’ legacy to his family will always be remembered as a faithfilled, determined and passionate man that went after life with tenacity.
Charles is survived by his sons, Chuck (Kim) Sheffield, Donald (Kim) Sheffield and Chad (Lori) Sheffield; grandchildren, Chase, Amy, Cameron, Brooke, Matthew, Chandler, Cason, Macie and Seth; great-granddaughter, Maeleigh Sheffield; and brother, Kenny (Margie) Sheffield.
The family is deeply grateful to caregiver’s and staff at Zebulon Park Health and Rehabilitation for the love, dignity, and compassion they showed Charles Sheffield.
