It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald “Donnie” Bruce Evans, a loving father, devoted grandfather, and cherished friend to many.
Donnie was born on July 14, 1950, in Columbus, GA, and peacefully departed this world at his home, surrounded by his beloved family, on November 7, 2023.
Donnie was a proud graduate of Dudley Hughes High School, Class of 1969, and went on to build a successful and dedicated career, spanning over two decades, with Proctor and Gamble/ADM. His work ethic and commitment to excellence also led him to several years of employment with Bearings and Drives.
Donnie’s colleagues and friends always admired his tenacity and the way he approached his work.
Beyond his professional life, Donnie had a passion for the great outdoors. He found solace in hunting and fishing, and his eyes would light up at the sight of a hot rod. He lived life to the fullest and shared his infectious laughter with those around him.
His humor, generosity, handiness, and selflessness endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Donnie was held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, located at 4378 Gray Hwy, Gray, GA 31032. The family was available to receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Greg Thompson officiated the ceremony.
Donnie is survived by his children, Shannon Evans Dobbs (Jeff), Sherri Evans Mock (Chris), and Stacey Evans Henderson (William).
He is also survived by his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Eugene Evans (Cricket), his sister, Bobbie Evans Tucker (Mike), his grandchildren, Andrew Dobbs, Jr. (Taylor), Austin Dobbs (Lauren), Avery Dobbs, Harlie Henderson, Seth Henderson, and Owen Mock, as well as three great-grandchildren.
He had a special bond with his beloved dog and constant companion, Buck, and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Eugene Evans and Margaret Lawrence Evans, and his sister, Rebecca Evans Pope.
