The Jones County News salutes the local Veteran of the Week

Thomas L. Collum is the local veteran of the week. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 to October 1945. He was a tech sergeant and received jungle combat training in Panama; he was also assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 81st Infantry, Pacific Command Headquarters in the Philippines.

Dr. William Henry “Bill” Terry III

July 9, 1943 - March 10, 2023 Dr. William Henry “Bill” Terry, III, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 10, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. Bill was born on July 9, 1943, in Georgetown, Texas to the late William Henry Terry, Jr. and Evelyn Pearson Terry.

Mary “Roslyn” Epps Jones

Mary “Roslyn” Epps Jones, affectionately known as “Yang Yang,” a lifelong resident of Dry Branch, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2023, at Atrium Navicent Health. She was born to the late J. W. Epps and Mary Del Scott on Oct. 27, 1951.

Steve Allen Wise Sr.

Steve Allen Wise Sr. passed away Thursday evening, March 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Atrium Navicent Health after a brief illness. A visitation was held Monday, March 6, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Gray Memorial Chapel, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032.

Robyn Allyce Watts

Robyn Allyce Watts passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 25, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends. A visitation for family and friends was held Monday evening, Feb. 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel, 4378 Gray Highway.

James “Jimmy” Abbott Stinson

James “Jimmy” Abbott Stinson, Sr., 85, of Gray, GA, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023. Funeral services were held at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, with the Reverend Steve Johnson officiating. The family greeted friends one hour prior to the service.

Susan Collins is the local veteran of the week. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps, doing her basic training at Parris Island, S.C. Then she was sent to Florida for communications and intelligence training. Her first assignment was Guam, then Cuba; her final assignment was Spain.
