During voluntary summer workouts, enthusiasm is bound to be shown.
For the Volley Hounds, there has not been much desire to look up at the clock in anticipation of a proverbial quitting time whistle.
In fact, new head coach Leah Bodnarchuk has had players stay for an extended amount of time after workouts concluded. For example, around 20 minutes after Monday afternoon’s session at Gray Station Middle School, many players were still on the court getting work in.
“We’ve had several practices run over by an hour because they wanted to stay late,” Bodnarchuk said. “That makes your heart feel really good as a coach.”
All of that comes on the back end of a summer in which the Lady Greyhounds have also gone to a handful of camps and recently scrimmaged West Laurens and Jasper County, winning varsity matches in both with the JV squad also showing remarkable growth.
“The summer has gone great. We’ve had almost everyone here in between vacations and camps. We’ve had about 80 to 90 percent of our team here,” Bodnarchuk said. “It shows that they want to get better and care about their teammates.”
