Greyhounds open region play with blowout of Eagles Landing

On paper, the likes of Union Grove, Locust Grove, and Ola are the teams that Jones County will have to contend with for supremacy in Region 2-AAAA.

But no team can be taken lightly, and that approach showed for the Greyhounds on Monday at Cecil Patterson Field as they began region play with ease.

Jones County (5-2), which pushed one single run across in the opening inning, exploded for 11 second-inning runs, putting it well on the way to a 15-0 win in four innings by the mercy rule.

JCHS won the second game 18-0 thanks to a 14-run second inning.

The Greyhounds, who hosted Woodland Wednesday and travel to face the Wolfpack on Friday, take on Locust Grove next week, going on the road Monday and playing host on Wednesday.

Trent Paulk got the start on the mound in Monday’s first game, holding the Eagles scoreless before giving way to Cayden Tidwell. Regardless of who was pitching in Monday’s opening game, run support was hardly a problem, as offensive highlights included a Jonathan Scarbary homer and fourth-inning RBI single by MJ Lane to finish the game on the mercy rule.

Scarbary and Davis Upshaw each had three hits in the first game with Scarbary and Paulk each collected two hits in the second game where Dalton Lowe pitched three shutout innings.
