Growth of volleyball excitement shows in tryouts

GREYHOUND VOLLEYBALL

The enthusiasm when it comes to volleyball in Jones County is palpable these days. Further proof was shown last week at not just the JCHS gymnasium but even across the way toward Gray Station Middle School.

Last week, tryouts for both the high school and middle school teams were held. Through multiple days, a combined more than 100 players took to the court as the roster for next fall’s season was set.

“It’s pretty awesome,” JCHS head volleyball coach Leah Bodnarchuk said. “It shows the growing popularity of the sport here.”

Over at Jones County High School, Bodnarchuk and her coaching staff oversaw an enthusiastic group of Volley Hounds hoping to build on last year’s winning record, the best single-season showing in program history.

“It helps a lot; the girls are pretty excited about that,” Bodnarchuk said. “The girls are just on fire to come back; that helps. It’s all really exciting.”
