Hounds shatter county record at Fendley relay events

Running in the Richard Fendley Relays in Warner Robins, Clay Lacy, Luke Thornton Tyler Marshall, and Shaun Williams ran a county record time of 8:11, beating the previous county record time of 8:16. The Greyhounds’ relay team has also posted the quickest 4x800 relay time in the GHSA’s AAAA classification this season. Those four runners brought home another win, also winning the distance medley with a time of 10:57.99.

The record-setting time was part of a span last week in which the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds claimed multiple finishes near the front of multiple relay events as the Lady Hounds also took first in Thursday’s 4x800 in the International City Relays, also held in Warner Robins.

Mary Barnwell, Makenzie Snook, Tanner Watts, and Jordan Norman-Brown not only ran to a first-place finish in the girls medley on a time of 14:03.47 but also took second in the 4x800 relay on a run of 10:49.65.

The two wins by Lacy, Williams, Thornton, and Marshall led a relay-event showing in which JCHS also placed sixth or better across the spectrum of relay races. Along with JCHS taking sixth in the 4x200, Jones County’s Kaden Canty, Travis Miller, JR Clark, and Armani Norris ran 43.34 to finish fourth. In the 4x400 relay, Debarus Bowden, Quintarian Gore, Tray Stephens, Norris, and Ayjuan Fuller were part of a 3:33.78 time that claimed third.

Travis Miller had a strong showing in two other events, taking fifth in the 100 meters (11.22) and sixth in the long jump (19-7.00). Keith McCrary led JCHS in field events, finishing third in the discus on a throw of 127-9.00. Other top finishes for Jones County were JR Clark finishing ninth in the 100 meters (11:42) and Tripp Jones claiming ninth in the 110-meter hurdles on a time of 21.33.

Jones County’s girls’ meet showing led an stout effort in relay events for the Lady Greyhounds, who took seventh in the 4x100 and tenth in the 4x400. In field events, Kaylah Lawson took seventh in the shotput with a throw of 30-1.00 and ninth in the discus, throwing 76-6.00
