Greyhounds put on downtown show at Main Street Gray Dual
On one hand, the Greyhounds handled their business with ease on Saturday.
Lining up against East Laurens in a duals match, Jones County stayed sharp coming off of Thanksgiving, winning all but two matches with one of those being a medical forfeit. In fact, of Jones County’s wins against East Laurens, six were via pin.
The bigger picture for Jones County, however, was not so much the dominant win but where it took place.
In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Main Street Gray Hometown Christmas Market, Jones County took over the middle of the street, holding a duals match as part of festivities for the third year in a row.
“It’s a big deal to be able to do this and be part of such a great event in our community. I was talking with someone as we were walking in about how there are not many towns that can do this anymore, so being able to do that here and be part of it means a lot,” Greyhounds head coach Adam Gillhouse said. “Everyone is so supportive, from the Gray PD, to the Sheriff’s Office, to the Chamber, to downtown Gray and Main Street Gray.”
The match even ended with some Christmas cheer, as Greyhounds wrestler Alex Hammond wrestled a costumed Grinch to the ground, much to the delight of holiday revelers as the Grinch was once again unable able to steal Christmas.
It came in front of a mix of attendees, both regular fans of Greyhounds wrestlers and onlookers during the time leading up to Saturday night’s treelighting.
“It’s a good experience for them,” Gillhouse said. “It’s something close to home for them and they get to have a good time doing it.”
