Future Hounds work out with JCHS stars
A night of fun arrived last Wednesday for a group of Jones County Youth Football all stars, and it came from aboard a school bus as it rolled in to park at Morris Bank Recreation Complex.
Jones County’s bantam league all stars received a surprise visit from a busload of Greyhound football players. Many players who began their football careers on the very same fields that youngsters play on today went through a brief workout of football and fun. It ended with brief motivational words from Greyhounds head football coach Justin Montgomery and Greyhounds upperclassmen.
“I think everybody had fun. This was an opportunity where, with us not being in the playoffs, we wanted to make sure that we were able to do something to give back to the youth program,” Montgomery said.
The night of fun ended with a memorable photo op among JCHS and JCYFL coaches, players as well as nearby rookie all stars.
“I asked them, ‘How many of you played in the Jones County Youth Football Program?’ And about half or more raised their hands,” Montgomery said. “A lot of these guys were able to call back to that. Tonight was a big night.”
