Lady Hounds bounce back, win sixth of seven

The Lady Greyhounds gave Union Grove their best shot in last week’s region opener, hanging with the region front-runner, who is also ranked among the state’s top teams in a 49-39 loss.

Ragins leads Greyhounds’ All-Region selections as Offensive Player Of Year

A further measure of the Greyhounds’ success on the football field was shown with last week’s all-region selections. Jones County concluded its season with a record of 8-4. Two of those losses came to teams that will play for a state championship next week – Coffee and Perry.

Hounds take first at Yellow Jacket Duals; Brown, Lipford win 100th

For the past few years, a key weekend on the Greyhounds’ wrestling schedule has been the Yellow Jacket Duals in Hazelhurst, an event that’s viewed as showing where Jones County stands as a team. In a field of 28 teams, the Greyhounds showed that they rate rather well.

Milroe steers Alabama to SEC title win over Georgia

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe helped the No. 1 Crimson Tide knock off No. 1 Georgia 27-24 in the SEC Championship game, snapping the Bulldogs’ 29-game winning streak Saturday. While his stat line wasn’t great, Milroe shined in the biggest moments, leading Alabama to the win.

Jones County had little trouble getting the best of Mary Persons in a dual match on Saturday night, prevailing 42-12 in winning all but two of the 11 matches. That win was not the story of the evening. The headliner? Where the wrestling bout between the teams from neighboring counties took place.
