A region title is at stake on Friday for the Greyhounds, and the shot will come against one of their more recent nemeses. Winners of five in a row, Jones County (6-2) goes to Warner Robins (5-3) on Friday in the next-to-last game of the regular season.

Multiple factors were stacked against the Lady Greyhounds in last week’s GHSA state tournament super regional. Its roster thinned by key injuries, Jones County also drew a matchup in the four-team double-elimination format against defending state champion Northside Columbus.

The region’s cross country supremacy still belongs to Jones County. The course may have been different, but the results were the same as a year ago – a clean sweep of the region cross country titles for the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds, this time coming on Locust Grove’s home course.

Coming off a bye week, No. 1 Georgia (7-0, 4-0 SEC) is set to face Florida this Saturday in Jacksonville. The Gators (5-2, 3-1) struggled earlier this season, but are on a two-game winning streak, with their most recent victory a come-from-behind 41-39 win over South Carolina two weeks ago.

Jones County Youth Football crowned its champions for the season on Saturday morning with title games being held in five different divisions in the annual Super Bowl event held at Greyhound Field. The inaugural season of girls flag football saw Purple win in overtime.

The calendar officially turned to a key date on Monday for winter sports at Jones County High School. After an offseason of voluntary workouts, Oct. 23 was the first official day that the sports of basketball and wrestling were permitted to officially practice. All three took advantage.

The region cross country championships will remain in Jones County. The Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds repeated as region champions on Saturday morning, getting the best of the competition at the region meet in Locust Grove. JCHS swept both of Saturday's JV races as well.
