Mews sparks Georgia win over Ball State

Lance McCurley lance@msgrnews.com After a scoreless first quarter, top-ranked Georgia got the spark it needed Saturday afternoon when wide receiver Mekhi Mews returned a Ball State punt 69 yards to the end zone. The Bulldogs never looked back.

Bulldogs open SEC play with Gamecocks

Top-ranked Georgia (2-0) opens up its SEC slate as it hosts division rival South Carolina (1-1) on Saturday. The Bulldogs are looking forward to extending their home winning streak of 20 games against the Gamecocks, who are coming off a 41-21 victory over Furman this past Saturday.

Cheer Hounds finish third in hotly contested meet

Competition season officially began for the Cheer Hounds on Saturday at Morgan County. Facing intense competition that included seven teams from the AAAAA classification, Jones County was third. The Cheer Hounds entire region competed at the event, and Jones County placed second out of that group.

Lady Hounds come alive, run-rule Warner Robins

For three innings, Warner Robins gave Jones County all that it could handle last Thursday with the Lady Hounds holding onto a 2-0 lead through three innings. Then, in more ways than one, Jones County’s fortunes turned around in a large way as a 10-run inning ended the game early on the mercy rule.

Perry too much for shorthanded Hounds

Even before taking a snap against Perry on Friday, the Greyhounds’ hands were full against a Perry team and its arsenal of skill players and their ability to break a big play.

Middle school boys first, girls second in Peake Invitational

Middle school runners from Jones County showed themselves to be among the best in middle Georgia last week at the Peake Invitational in Macon. With multiple season bests being set, the boys won first with the girls finishing second overall.
