Purple squad takes first two intrasquad games

South Georgia Tech faced its toughest test of the season so far Saturday against East Georgia but still prevailed to win 74-60. JCHS product Camryn James came off the bench to help the cause, draining all four tries from the free-throw line.

Competing for team scores is out the window for the Greyhound wrestlers. Now, it’s all about one-on-one competition. The quest to be among the best in an individual weight class kicks up this weekend with the region traditional tournament, and Jones County will serve as the host.

Heading to Smith’s Station, Ala., the Greyhound wrestlers had a point to prove on Saturday. After not being able to advance to the state dual championships and seeing teams that they had beaten make it there, it was not hard to find additional motivation.

Jefferson wins title

A week after ousting Jones County from the postseason at the state dual prelims, Jefferson captured a state title on Saturday in the Greyhounds home gym, edging Cass 37-33 in the final to cap off a day that began with wrestling on four mats spread across the gymnasium.
