Lady Hounds ready to ‘carry the torch’

As sweet as last year’s unbeaten run through the region on the way to a region title was for the Lady Greyhounds, the end of the season had its taste of bitterness, as well.

Georgia delivered its best defensive performance of the season against Texas this past Saturday in a 35-10 win.The Longhorns struggled to get anything going offensively, as the Bulldogs’ defense was dominant.

Lady Hounds top Westside in scrimmage

The Lady Greyhounds controlled the pace throughout last Thursday’s preseason scrimmage against Westside Macon, winning 55-48.Jones County led 44-26 through three quarters before the Lady Hounds worked their reserves into the game, allowing the Seminoles to close the margin.

Greyhounds overpower Westside for scrimmage win

From a record standpoint, Thursday night’s win for the Greyhounds against Westside Macon won’t be documented in a formal win-loss column. But from an emotional standpoint for a team led by three seniors and a bevy of underclassmen? It mattered an awful lot.

HORNS DOWN! Dawgs’ dominate 4th quarter in win over Texas

Georgia put on a masterful display of domination Saturday night at home, especially in the fourth quarter of its 35-10 victory over Texas.The Bulldogs (9-1, 7-1), who led 14-10 going into the final quarter, performed better than the Longhorns when it mattered most.

Greyhounds start season on strong note at Harlem

Offseason mode came to a close on Saturday for the Greyhounds on the wrestling mat, as a handful of early-season tournaments began with the Kickoff Classic Tournament in Harlem.Jones County went 4-1 overall, winning the event’s bronze bracket.

Hounds, Lady Hounds to test selves in scrimmage against Westside

Playing within a 10-team region, there are few windows of opportunity for warm-up games for the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds. Both teams have just two contests prior to the start of region play on Dec. 2 against McDonough.

Lady Hounds place 12th at GHSA championships

The Lady Greyhounds lineup may have been laden with youth, but none of that seemed to matter for Jones County at Friday’s state cross country meet in Carrollton.
