Lady Greyhounds’ historic season ends in second round

The Lady Greyhounds season was one of memories on the tennis court. Over the course of the campaign, Jones County captured a region title and advanced to the state tournament’s round of 16, two feats not accomplished for at least 10 years.

Walnut Grove’s offense too much for young group of Lady Hounds

LOGANVILLE — The Lady Greyhounds showed plenty of moxie in early going on their return to the state tournament at Walnut Grove, fighting back to tie the game in the first half.

After two seasons at East Carolina, former JCHS defensive standout Javion “Pinball” Clark is entering the transfer portal. The safety made the announcement last week on his personal social media and within his post included, “THANK YOU ECU.

The time is now set for the Lady Greyhounds’ second-round state tennis tournament match.Jones County will host Northview at 1 p.m. on Monday with a berth in the state quarterfinals at stake against Westminster.

The remainder of the Greyhounds’ first-round state playoff series at Flowery Branch will conclude on Thursday after a deluge of severe weather ended Wednesday’s first game through six innings with JCHS trailing 7-3. Thursday’s second game of the three-game series is set for 4 p.m.

50 of the 59 members of the Jones County 4-H Shotgun Team qualified at an April 3 event held at Wolf Creek Farm on Nathan Roberts Road. More than 150 shooters from across Georgia participated in the event to qualify for the state level competition May 10 at Rock Eagle.

David introduced as new athletic director

For most of the past 30 years, the drive for Charles David to work has been the same as it ended at Clifton Ridge Middle School, where until last week he was the school’s athletic director.
