It's state tournament time this week for the Jones County tennis teams.The Greyhounds, who finished third in Region 2-AAAA, will play Wednesday at East Forsyth with the Lady Hounds, fresh off a region tournament title, hosting Flowery Branch at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

After finishing the regular season atop the region, the Lady Greyhounds finished the job in last week’s region tournament in McDonough, raising the trophy as region champions for the first time in more than 10 years.With the win, Jones County will enter the upcoming GHSA state tournament as a No.

In Region 2-AAAA, Jones County represents the haves. Last week’s opponent, McDonough, on the other hand, had the appearance of have-nots as shown by JCHS winning both games by a combined score of 42-5.

With an eye toward the area tournament, the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds worked toward being able to play their best golf when it matters most, going on the road for one tournament and hosting another match last Thursday at Lake Jonesco Golf Course.

After a fight to the finish, the Greyhounds will enter the state tennis tournament as its region’s third seed.Jones County rallied after a loss to Eagles Landing in last week’s region tournament in McDonough, beating Hampton 3-2 in the thirdplace match.
