Teams from throughout the southeast found themselves at last weekend’s Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. Needless to say, with teams from around 15 states on hand, the stage was a bright one.

Gray Station finished as the conference runner-up last week after beating Clifton Ridge in the tournament semifinals. GSMS pulled away late to lock up the win before falling in the title game to Pike County.

Cheer Hounds overcome adversity for win at Starr’s Mill

STARR’S MILL - Late Saturday afternoon, Jones County’s competition cheerleaders returned to Gray with a first-place trophy after winning their division in the Starr’s Mill Invitational.

Team bids emotional farewell to seniors

With their season nearing its conclusion, the Volley Hounds dropped a trio of contests last week, falling 25-14 and 25-9 to an Eagles Landing them that has won nearly 30 matches this season as well as to Woodland, followed by Thursday’s 25-16 and 25-8 defeat at the hands of Piedmont.

Etienne helps Georgia tame Tigers

Trevor Etienne helped spark Georgia’s offense on Saturday with a win over rival Auburn.The No. 5 Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 SEC) have struggled on that side of the ball, but Etienne racked up 124 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns in a 31-13 victory over the Tigers (2-4, 0-3).

Georgia ready to ‘cut loose’ against Mississippi State

No. 5 Georgia (4-1, 2-1 SEC) will host Mississippi State (1-4, 0-2) on Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff.The Bulldogs of Starkville have struggled this season in head coach Jeff Lebby’s first season at the helm. However, they got a bye last Saturday to rest and prepare to face the Bulldogs of Athens.

One year after debuting its new Raider course, Jones County High School’s Army JROTC program once again hosted its annual Raider Meet._The meet featured 13 schools. The JCHS male team won third place, Overall Male; first place, Male Raider CCR; and first place, Male Raider Obstacle Course.
