On paper, the likes of Union Grove, Locust Grove, and Ola are the teams that Jones County will have to contend with for supremacy in Region 2-AAAA.But no team can be taken lightly, and that approach showed for the Greyhounds on Monday at Cecil Patterson Field as they began region play with ease.

Jones County’s Mite League Basketball All Stars are district champions.The 10U all-stars won the district crown with last week’s victory against all-stars from the City of Decatur and will next compete on the state level of play in Carrollton.

Distance runners win big in Monticello

A reminder was laid out on Saturday in Monticello that Jones County’s distance runners are still among middle Georgia’s best.Competing at the Monticello Distance Meet, Jones County took first in five different high school events while also dominating the front end of multiple finishing orders.

Jones County went on the road Tuesday and toppled defending state champion Creekside 48-34, advancing to Saturday’s AAAA semifinals.JCHS will play Kell at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Akins Arena in Downtown Athens.

The Lady Hounds are quarterfinal-bound. Feeding off energy from a home-court advantage, Jones County advanced to the Elite 8 for the second time in three years on Tuesday, topping Starr's Mill 51-45 after the game entered the final quarter tied 34-34.
