The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Oct. 4-16, 2025.
Oct. 4
DUI refusal
Officer Joiner was dispatched to a local business in reference to an intoxicated person driving a vehicle. When Joiner arrived, he observed the vehicle that dispatch had described with the passenger side door open and a person sitting in the passenger seat. When Joiner went to make contact with the subject, the person got out and made their way around to the driver side of the vehicle. The officer made contact with the male subject, explained why he was wanting to speak to him. Joiner asked the male if he had been drinking and the male stated he had been drinking a couple of hours ago.
Joiner noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the male’s person while speaking to him.
The male subject then asked the officer if he could go inside the business, and Joiner allowed him to so that he could observe the male’s demeanor and speak with the complainant that called into dispatch. As the male subject was inside the business, Joiner noticed an off-duty Georgia State Patrol Trooper in the parking lot. The officer motioned to the Trooper asking if he was the complainant. The Trooper approached Joiner and advised he saw the male subject in the parking lot, and he appeared to be very intoxicated. While Joiner and the Trooper were speaking, Joiner walked over to the vehicle the male subject got out of and observed the interior of the vehicle. The officer noticed an open box of Corona in the back seat. Joiner then contacted his supervisor Sgt.
Hathaway, and Hathaway arrived on scene. Joiner ran the vehicle tag through the GCIC system to verify that the male subject he made contact with was the registered owner of the vehicle.
The officer then went inside the business and again made contact with the male subject. Joiner asked the male subject to step outside and at first the male was hesitant but then complied. As the male subject was walking out, he asked Joiner if he could walk home. The male subject then walked to Joiner’s patrol vehicle and placed his hands on the hood without being asked.
Joiner asked the male subject to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety test and the male agreed. Joiner advised the male that he was trying to see if he was safe to drive. The male subject then told the officer that “he doesn’t drive.” Joiner asked the male if he remembered he drove into the parking lot and the male stated “yes” he knows.
The male subject failed multiple parts of the sobriety test. Joiner then read the male his rights and asked for a blood draw. After some talking the male refused the blood draw. While doing further inventory of the vehicle, a bottle of Evan Williams Bourbon was found in the center console within arm’s reach with no top on it and some of the alcohol had been consumed. Also found were Corona bottle caps in the driver’s side door as well as an empty Coors Light can next to the Evan Willams bottle. The male subject was then transported to the Jones County LEC and issued two citations. One citation was for DUI refusal and one for open container. When Joiner asked the male subject to sign the citations, the male advised him he had to call someone first. After further speaking with the male subject, he still refused to sign the citations. Joiner then wrote “refused” on the citations and left the violator with copies.
Oct. 6
Probation warrant
Officer Farley initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 45 MPH in a 25-MPH speed zone.
Farley made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. Farley also advised the female driver that her tag was coming back suspended, and her vehicle didn’t have any insurance on it. At that time, the female produced an insurance card to the officer, but it had an expiration date of 2024. Farley then proceeded to check the status of the female’s license and it came back to show she had a probation warrant out of Fulton County. The female exited the vehicle and Officer Farley proceeded to do a search of the vehicle. A black Ruger LCP .380 pistol was located on the back seat. A check on the serial number on the firearm came back to show it was not stolen. The female driver was transported to the Jones County LEC by Officer Meeks.
The female was charged with speeding, no insurance, operating a vehicle with suspended/ canceled registration and the warrant out of Fulton County.
Oct. 9
Valid warrant
Officer Pointer was patrolling the area near the Bypass when he ran a check on a vehicle tag for valid insurance. Pointer learned that the vehicle tag was expired, and the vehicle had no insurance on it. The officer turned on his blue lights and siren and caught up to the vehicle on the Gray Bypass and Old 18. Pointer made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. The female driver advised the officer that she was aware of the tag but stated she should have insurance. Pointer gathered the female’s driver’s license and went back to his vehicle to have dispatch run the female’s information. Dispatch advised Pointer that the female had a valid warrant out of Baldwin County for failure to appear.
Pointer then went back to the female and had her step out of her vehicle and placed her in handcuffs. Dispatch confirmed the warrant, and the female was transported to the Baldwin County Jail by Officer Pointer and turned her over to jail staff.
Oct. 10
Suspended tag and warrant
Officer Jones was patrolling the area of the Crossing Intersection when he ran a tag number for routine check of insurance and registration. The information came back showing the tag was suspended. Jones pursued the vehicle and initiated his blue lights to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer made contact with the male driver and advised the reason for the stop. Jones returned to his patrol vehicle and ran the male’s information through the GCIC system, and it showed he was not licensed/suspended and also showed the male had a warrant out of Canton, GA. The officer then had the male step out of the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. The male driver was transported to the Jones County LEC by Officer Meeks and issued citations for suspended registration and driving while license suspended. Canton, GA PD did not want to place a hold on the male subject.
