My name is Terry Favors, and I’ve proudly called Gray home for the past 22 years. I’ve built a life here with my family and served this community for 16 years as your City Councilman for District 4. I’m running for re-election, not for recognition, but because I believe in representing the people of this community. My job is to carry out the will of the people, not my own.
I’ve spent my career building a business and building relationships. Since 1999, I’ve owned Express Income Tax in Macon, where I’ve learned the value of hard work, integrity, and listening to people. Now that I’m semi-retired, I have more time to dedicate to the city. I love and the neighbors I’m proud to serve.
I’ve raised my family in Gray alongside my wife of 23 years, Jean Favors. Our daughter, Haley, was born and raised in the Jones County School System and now serves as a neonatal nurse at the Medical Center in Macon. Like so many of you, we’ve built our lives here, and I want to make sure Gray continues to be a place where families thrive.
“My dad never meets a stranger—especially not here in Gray. I’m always with him, and no matter where we go, he’s focused on building relationships by truly listening to people,” Haley said.
Many folks in Gray already know me and what I stand for. For those who may not, I’ve spent my time in office earning trust by showing up, listening, and doing what’s right. I’ve always believed that leadership means putting people first.
When residents of The Pines, Piedmont Community, and Nature’s Walk voiced concerns about proposed condominiums/ apartments being built in front of their homes, I stood with them. One contractor supported the development, but the people didn’t. I left the council meeting multiple times to prevent a vote from happening without proper representation. Even though they weren’t my constituents, I made sure their voices were heard because that is what leadership looks like.
If I’m re-elected, I’ll continue to put your priorities first. Whether it’s protecting our neighborhoods, improving infrastructure, or advocating for transparency, I’ll keep listening and acting on your behalf. That’s why I’ve supported Main Street Gray and the Downtown Development Authority for sixteen years. I believe in smart growth that reflects our community’s values.
Together, we’ve already accomplished a lot. We completed Butler Hall, which now hosts weddings, school events, and city banquets. We finished the wastewater treatment plant, and we’ve brought city and county services together by purchasing buildings near City Hall. This move helps streamline access to resources and strengthens collaboration between government entities.
As we face new challenges, like the proposed data center, I urge our county commissioners to listen to the people’s concerns, not just the promise of tax revenue. Whether I personally support the project or not isn’t the point. What matters is what you want, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure your voices are heard.
Early voting begins Oct. 14 at the Jones County Government Center. There will also be Saturday voting available Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, and the final day to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 24. The general election will be held on Nov. 4, and you’ll vote at your assigned precinct. This election is about your voice, your values, and your vision for Gray. I encourage you to make a plan to vote and be part of shaping the future of our community.
