The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Aug. 4-11, 2023. Aug. 4 Computer scam Deputy Johnson was dispatched to the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office in reference to a computer scam.

17-year-old arrested for stealing car, fleeing police

Jones County’s Flock cameras were again instrumental in the recovery of a stolen car and apprehension of offenders involved. Lonnie Terrell Brown III, 17, was arrested Aug.

Greene murder trial to begin Monday

The trial of Rashad Anthony Lay, who faces charges in the shooting death of Trentarius Jade Greene, is scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection. Lay was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury Feb.

BOE hears reports of smooth school opening for 2023-24

The Jones County Board of Education held its first meeting since the beginning of the 2023-24 school year with report of a smooth opening. The Aug. 8 meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Ginger Bailey.

Cameras help track man wanted for aggravated assault

Jones County’s Flock cameras were instrumental in a recent aggravated assault that began with a vehicle repossession and ended in a violent attack of the repo agent. Charles L. Cornick, 63, was arrested Aug. 3 and charged with the crime of aggravated assault.
