One non-juvenile involved in JCHS prank pleads guilty

A high school prank that caused painful injuries to its victims has also resulted in a 36-month sentence for the only identified offender who was not a juvenile. Khallid Muhammad pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to three counts of the lesser included offense of reckless conduct.

Career Vehicle Day a hit for students, businesses

A little more post-pandemic normal came to Tuner Woods Elementary as students participated in Career Vehicle Day, a previously annual event that had been put on hold, thanks to a partnership with the Jones County Development Authority.

Apartment complex arsonist pleads guilty

A defendant in a 2020 arson that took place at a senior apartment complex in Gray entered a guilty plea in Jones County Superior Court. Brandon James Morton pleaded guilty to all three counts for which he was charged in the Feb. 16 proceeding.

Lay indicted for shooting that resulted in murder

Murder charges were among those brought back by a Jones County Grand Jury Feb. 6. Rashad Anthony Lay was indicted on charges of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault due to the shooting death of 32-year-old Trentarius Jade Greene. The shooting happened in Haddock Oct. 4, 2022.

Suspect arrested for theft after identification by trail cam

A Haddock man was charged with theft by taking after being identified with the help of a trail camera located near a victimized hunting camp. Charles Franklin Cliatt, 42, was arrested Feb. 2 and charged with theft by taking misdemeanor.
