Alleged drug offender denied bond following new charges

Bond was denied a Macon man who was arrested in Jones County while already being on bond for a previous Jones County drug charge. James Dewey Jones Jr., 46, was in Jones County Superior Court Sept. 15 seeking bond. Jones was arrested for drug possession Feb.

City plans to approve budget with same millage rate

City council members appointed a new department head and finalized its schedule for budget hearings and adoption of the budget and tax rate at their September business meeting. The Sept. 12 meeting was called to order by Mayor Ed Barbee.

JROTC instructor, cadets request obstacle course

Board of Education members received updated information about Georgia Milestones testing results and heard a request for a state-ofthe- art obstacle course for JROTC program that would benefit students for years to come. The Sept. 8 work session was called to order by Board Chairman Ginger Bailey.

Toys for Tots kicks off 2022 effort on Labor Day

Toys for Tots in Jones County had their kickoff with the Marine Corps Detachment 970 at Ingles and Ace Hardware on Labor Day to help get donations for underprivileged children for Christmas in the county.

County to apply for grant to pay firefighters

After a previous month filled with meetings in order to adopt a new budget and millage rate, the agenda for the Jones County Board of Commissioners’ September meeting was brief. Chairman Chris Weidner called the Sept. 6 meeting to order, and the opening prayer and pledge were led by Rev.
